Three Classic Three-Ingredient Whiskey Cocktails

Three-Ingredient Whiskey Cocktails

Whiskey (bourbon, to be specific) is what America is known for. Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and John Wayne are some famous whiskey drinkers in film. So many celebrities even have their own lines of whiskey. While many people prefer to drink their whiskey neat, cocktails are another great option. The internet has thousands of recipes for whiskey cocktails; some complicated, and some simple. That’s why we chose to start with three-ingredient whiskey cocktails.

In the first-ever episode of Be Your Own Bartender presented by Happy Hour Wine & Spirits, we made three simple, three-ingredient cocktails made with whiskey. Whiskey, bourbon, scotch, Irish whiskey, Canadian whiskey, moonshine, and especially local whiskey can be used to make these recipes. After you find your favorite bottle of whiskey, let’s get to work!

Three Ingredient Whiskey Cocktails

Old-Fashioned

First, let’s make an Old-Fashioned. The Old-Fashioned has been around for a long time and is one of the world’s most famous cocktails. For our recipe, you just need three ingredients: bitters, simple syrup, and your favorite whiskey.

  • Whiskey – 2 oz
  • Simple Syrup – 1 tsp
  • Bitters – 3-4 dashes

Whiskey Sour

Sailors used sour cocktails to prevent getting scurvy (so the legend goes)! The whiskey sour is my go-to and is one of my favorite cocktails. For our recipe, you will need whiskey, simple syrup, and lemon juice to make this tasty cocktail.

  • Whiskey – 2 oz
  • Lemon Juice – 1 oz
  • Simple Syrup – 1 oz

Bourbon Rickey

Originally developed in Washington D.C., the bourbon rickey is a refreshing way to enjoy your favorite whiskey. The three ingredients that we used are whiskey, lime juice, and club soda. If you like this recipe, try one with gin!

  • Whiskey – 1.5 oz
  • Lime Juice – 1 oz
  • Club Soda – Top off the cocktail glass

We will be making “three-ingredient” videos for each of the most popular types of alcohol. We hope that you enjoy these drinks and that they inspire you to try something new! Thanks again, and we will talk to you next week.

Until then, cheers!
